There are several videos of folks with late model Outbacks that demonstrate how to put the brake in service mode, so the rear pads can be changed. I haven't personally tried this with the Ascent yet. $550 for brakes sounds pretty high. It's easy to see. The TSB adds this adhesive where it was inadequately applied at the factory. If yours has hood shake, take it to the dealer, look under the hood of a new one on the lot and compare it to yours. Here's a pic under my hood. You can see three blobs of adhesive. I checked Subaru site and average fuel consumption for combine city and highway is about 22mpg which is about 10.7 L/100KM. I’m in Canada and having a colder weather can affect fuel consumption but my average consumption shows 20.5L/100KM.
